As For Now

June 2, 2016

Whenever Spring comes around, a buzz fills the air with everyone’s excitement for planting new seeds. New seeds not only in their gardens and flower pots, but also the planting of new seeds for their personal growth. The growth of home grown veggies, blossoming fruit trees, fragrant lilac bushes, and returning perennials all have so much symbolism to our day to day lives and relationship to our environment and people around us. One of my yoga classes had this exact theme. We were to think about a wish or desire we had for ourselves for this season. Reminders of what we are capable of… reminders to be hopeful… to be kind to ourselves… to have gratitude for the good around us.

“If we aren’t thankful for the little things in life we’ll never be thankful for anything.” ~The Ultimate Gift

Take heart, you aren’t the only one who gets overwhelmed at times. Wondering where you are going to find the money for the next mortgage payment, fighting the confusion with the recent diagnosis, a crappy day at work, a recent breakup, can’t seem to shake the winter blues. Sound familiar? You aren’t alone. But! Oh man there is still so much good around us. The way your dog leaps with joy by your entrance, those flowers blooming in that brightly colored clay pot you found at the market, the smile of the one you love, the sunshine on your shoulders, that cool cardigan you recently picked up with the crocheted back, a picnic in the park, the smell of fresh rain. I usually try and keep a gratitude list (with room to grow!) in whatever notebook I use most, something to look back to on those extra bluesy days. The smile begins to peek out from the corners of my cheeks. Let’s not take these things for granted. They have more value than we realize. As we learn to cherish the simple and beautiful things we have around us we will find it does wonders for our soul. Sure we have days we feel small, days we feel weak. There is still life in the valleys, for this is where the water flows. Our journey will strengthen us and the view when we finally reach the top will be a beauty. So what do ya say? What’s on your gratitude list?

And now for a listen to the tune!

AS FOR NOW

WHEN I LOOK AT YOU/ I LOOK RIGHT THROUGH/ I LOOK RIGHT THROUGH MY WINDOW/ CAUSE YOU SEE ALL THE THINGS OF THIS WORLD/ THAT WE MAY CHANGE FOR THE GOOD/ AND AS FOR NOW/ LET’S NOT TAKE FOR GRANTED/ THE TREES, AND THE BIRDS/ AND WHERE THE WIND BLOWS/ AND AS FOR NOW/ LET’S SING A NEW SONG/ AND DANCE THIS NEW DANCE/ AROUND THE GARDEN/ WHEN I’M WITH YOU/ I FEEL LIKE I’M ABOVE THE CLOUDS/ WE ARE A PEOPLE OF/ WEAK ONES/ AND STRONG ONES/ AND SMALL ONES/ AND BIG ONES TOO/ WE’RE IN THE VALLEY/ BUT YOU SAY/ LET’S CLIMB A MOUNTAIN
